Turkey’s short-range ballistic missile system, Tayfun, has successfully completed another test launch, reaffirming its reliability and effectiveness. The missile, launched from a designated test site, accurately hit its target, marking another milestone in Turkey’s defense industry.
Developed indigenously by ROKETSAN, Tayfun had previously undergone two successful test launches on October 18, 2022, and May 23, 2023. This latest test further demonstrates the progress of the project and the operational readiness of the system.
Tayfun is a land-based missile system that can be launched from military vehicles. The first test was conducted using a BMC 525-44 model 8×8 military truck, and it is believed that the same launch platform was used for subsequent tests.
With a range of up to 800 kilometers, the missile follows a trajectory where it ascends to the edge of space before locking onto its target and descending towards it. Reports indicate that the altitude of its ascent varies depending on the target’s location.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan had previously announced plans to increase Turkey’s stockpile of 800-kilometer-range missiles while also accelerating efforts to develop new missile systems with a range of 2,000 kilometers. The successful tests of Tayfun represent a significant step towards achieving Turkey’s defense and strategic autonomy.
As Turkey continues to advance its missile technology, the successful development and testing of Tayfun pave the way for more advanced, longer-range missile systems in the future.
